O que significa a expressão PUT ON A FRONT?

-Hey, I've known you for a while but I've never talked yo you about your taste in music. What kind of music do you like?

-I love rap and my favorite singer is Eminem.

-Really? What's your favorite thing about him?

-I just like the fact he acts the way he wants and says whatever he feels like in his lyrics. He is not worried about putting on a front, you know? Most people in the music industry are fake and that bothers me a lot. I'm just trying to say he's authentic.

-Wow wow! You have a really strong opinion on that guy. You must really like him a lot.

#001 put on/up a front: to pretend to be someone you're not

-I heard about James' father's fatal accident. Have you heard from him since then and how he's been?

-I only saw him at the funeral and oddly enough I have to admit he didn't show any sign of grief over his father's death and I'm not the only one saying this.

-Well, I had the best impression of their relationship and it seemed they got along pretty well. I'm sure he's just putting up a front.

#002 put up a front: to pretend to feel a certain way

Usando o verbo WISH + simple past

I wish you good luck", "he wished me Marry Christmas".

"I wish I had a car"

I wish I had = eu gostaria de ter

I wish I could = eu gostaria de poder

We wish we lived = nós gostaríamos de morar

She wishes she knew = ela gostaria de saber

He wishes he played = ele gostaria de jogar

I wish he had more free time to go out with me.

We wish they lived near here. = Eu gostaria que eles morassem perto daqui.

They wish she knew more about the job.

I wish you didn't tell them.

I wish I was = I wish I were – eu gostaria de ser/estar

You wish you were – você gostaria de ser/estar

He wishes he was = He wishes he were – ele gostaria se ser/ estar

They wish they were – eles gostariam de ser/ estar

I wish it was = I wish it were – eu gostaria que fosse/ estivesse

--------------------------------------------------------

I wish I found some better sounds no one's ever heard
I wish I had a better voice that sang some better words
I wish I found some chords in an order that is new
I wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sang

I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink
But now I'm insecure and I care what people think
My name's 'blurryface' and I care what you think

Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol' days
When our momma sang us to sleep
But now we're stressed out

We're stressed out

O que significa a expressão CATCH 22?

-Hey, I heard you were super excited for a job interview that was supposed to happen yesterday. how did that go?

-That went terrible. They said they were fine with young employees because they needed fresh perspectives but they actually couldn't hire people who had under 5 years of experience. But how can that make any sense? How can I have experience if they won't give me a chance to have my first job?

-Yeah. It's a typical catch 22 situation.

Catch 22: a situation where one thing must happen in order to cause another thing to happen, but because the first thing does not happen the second thing cannot happen

O que signfiica a expressão "TO TAKE DOWN A NOTCH"

-Do you remember that popular cheerleader from high school that made everybody's life hell?

-Yeah I do. Gosh I hated that girl.

-I just saw her on my way here and she seemed desolated. Life doesn't seem to be treating her very well. Somebody told me her husband left her for her best friend and she became very depressed.

-Yes, what goes around, comes around. Soon or later somebody would eventually take her down a notch.

-Come on, don't say that! I know she was mean, but maybe she's changed. And nobody deserves such a thing!

TO TAKE DOWN A NOTCH: to deflate or humble someone. You can also use it as an expression such as: take it down a notch! meaning to say "hey you, act less arrogantly". A variation for that expression would be "to take down a notch OR TWO".

Hello, it’s me
I was wondering if after all these years
You’d like to meet, to go over everything
They say that time’s supposed to heal ya
But I ain’t done much healing

Hello, can you hear me?
I’m in California dreaming about who we used to be
When we were younger and free
I’ve forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet

There’s such a difference between us
And a million miles

Hello from the other side
I must’ve called a thousand times to tell you
I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done
But when I call, you never seem to be home

Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I’ve tried to tell you
I’m sorry for breaking your heart
But it don’t matter, it clearly doesn’t tear you apart anymore

Hello, how are you?
It’s so typical of me to talk about myself
I’m sorry, I hope that you’re well
Did you ever make it out of that town
Where nothing ever happened?

It’s no secret

That the both of us are running out of time

Vamos lá!

1. I was wondering if: eu estava me perguntando se...
  • I was wondering if he is really my friend.
  • I wonder if she likes her boyfriend or not
2. to meet: encontrar e conhecer alguém pela primeira vez.
  • nice to meet you.
  • I think I'll meet them at the mall because it's the safest place around.
3. go over: examinar, verificar.
  • Let's go over a few detais before we go even further.
  • Before we continue our relationship, I'd like to go over a few things that annoy me about you.
4. they say time's supposed to heal ya: há um ditado que diz que o tempo cura todas as feridas. Aqui, temos a expressão to be supposed to, que é usada para nos referirmos a algo que esperamos que aconteça, além de ya, que é a maneira informal de se dizer you. Ainda falando sobre to be supposed to, usamos essa expressão para dizer o que algo ou alguém deve ou não deve fazer, o que é esperado dela. Veja alguns exemplos:
  • What am I supposed to do?
  • You're not supposed to smore here.
  • Only cyclists are supposed to use this path.
4. I ain't done much healing: Eu não me curei muito. Portanto, I am not ugly ficaria I an't ugly; she hasn't got here se tornaria she ain't got here; they haven't got it se tornaria they ain't got it, etc.

am not

are not, aren’t
is not, isn’t
has not, hasn’t
have not, haven’t

5. dreaming about: querendo muito. O phrasal verb to dream about expressa a idea de querer muito algo. Veja alguns exemplos:
  • i've been dreaming about that trip forever.
  • I spent all day dreaming about this moment.
6. we used to be: nós costumávamos ser. A estrutura é pronome + used+to+verbo no infinitivo. Veja alguns exemplos:
  • I used to sleep all afternoon every day when I got home from school.
  • I used to play with my friends at home until late at night.
  • I used to be best friends with my last girlfriend
7: I must've: I devo ter ligado. Essa é a forma abreviada de I must have called.

9. tear you apart: te despedaça em pedaços. Veja maisa lguns exemplos come sse phrasal verb:
  • I don't want to give him any more hopes because I might tear his heart apart.
10: typical of me: tão minha cara...
  • I can't believe how typical of you this is. You always cry for attention.
  • You are always disgusted by any kind of food. This is so typical of you.
11. Did you ever make it out of that town?: Você já saiu daquela cidadezinha?
  • I can't wait to finally make it out of this prison.
  • Why don't you make it out of the house already and come with us?
12. The both of us are running out of time: nós dois estamos correndo contra o tempo. O phrasal verb to run out of se refere ao ato de usar toda a reserva de algo, como tempo, dinheiro, comida, etc. Veja alguns exemplos:
  • I've nearly run out of money.
  • Run or we'll run out of time!

WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES?

Veja alguns exemplos:

I knoww that everybody has virtues and faults, but he seems to have more faults.

Veja alguns exemplos:

Ex: Never mind, she is having PMS.
Ex: Don't bother her. She's having PMT.

Estar mensrtruada é TO BE ON ONE'S PERIOD. VEJA:

Ex: Ex: I can’t swim. I’m on my period.

Ex: I wonder why my period is late.

Ex: My period has come twice in one month.

A expressão é TO BE ON THE RAG e equivale mais ou menos a estar menstruada. Veja:

Ex: She's on the rag. Be patient!

Textos traduzidos: Unfriended (film) - plot

When a humiliating video of Fresno, California high school student Laura Barns (Heather Sossaman) is uploaded to YouTube, causing her to endure widespread mockery and ridicule, she promptly commits suicide.

A year later, her closest friend, Blaire Lily (Shelley Hennig), views a LiveLeak video of Laura's suicide - where she is seen pointing a gun to her head and shooting herself, despite nearby students begging her to stop [Um ano depois, a amiga mais próxima dela, Blaire Lily (Shelley Hennig), visualiza um vídeo LiveLeak do suicídio de Laura - onde ela é vista apontando uma arma para sua cabeça e atirando em si mesma, apesar dos estudantes por perto suplicarem para ela parar]. Blaire is then contacted over Skype by her boyfriend Mitch Roussel (Moses Jacob Storm) [Blaire então recebe uma ligação via Skype de seu namorado Mitch Roussel (Moses Jacob Storm)]. Both are joined by their classmates Jess Felton (Renee Olstead), Ken Smith (Jacob Wysocki), and Adam Sewell (Will Peltz) [Ambos se juntam aos seus colegas de classe Jess Felton (Renee Olstead), e Adam Sewell (Will Peltz)]. During their conversation, however, they notice a random user dubbed "billie227" in their chat, who was not invited in by any of the participants [Durante a conversa deles, entretanto, eles notam um usuário aleatório apelidade de "billie227" no bate-papo deles, que não foi convidade por nenhum dos particiantes].

After several unsuccessful attempts to get rid of the stranger, the fivesome suspect a sixth classmate–Val Rommel (Courtney Halverson), whom they all despise—is pranking them. Accordingly, they invite Val to their chat [Depois de várias tentativas má sucedidas de se livrar do desconhecido, o grupo de cinco suspeitam que uma sexta colega de classe - Val Rommel (Courtney Halveson), que eles odeiam - está tirando sarro deles]. Without warning, Jess's Facebook is updated with photos of Val drinking and smoking at a party [Sem aviso, o facebook de Jess é carregado com fotos de Val bebendo e fumando numa festa]. As Val loses her temper, Jess proclaims her innocence while struggling to delete the photos, which suddenly reappear on Adam's account [Enquanto Val perde a cabeça, Jess jura sua inocência enquanto se esforça para deletar as fotos, que de repente reaparecem na conda de Adam]. After repeated threats from Billie, Val calls 911 to report online abuse and then signs off.

Blaire is sent a link that reveals a photo of Laura messaging Val for her to remove the humiliating video and asking for friendship, and Val rejecting her, telling her to kill herself [Blaire recebe um link que revela uma foto de Laura mandando mensagem de texto para Val para ela remover o vídeo humilhante e suplicanddo por amizade, e Val a rejeitando, dizendo para ela se matar]. Multiple Instagram users then slander Val, who is suddenly brought back into the chat, sitting motionless in her bathroom next to an open bottle of bleach [Usuários múltiplos do Instagram então difamam Val, que é de repente trazida de volta para o bate-papo, sentando-se imóvel em seu banheiro próxima a uma garrafa aberta de alvejante]. Initially thinking her camera is frozen, they discover that Val is in fact paralysed in some way as her phone is seen vibrating when Blaire attempts to call her  [Inicialmente achando que a câmera dela está paralizada, eles descobrem que Val está na verdade paralizada de alguma forma já que seu telefone é visto vibrando quando Blaire tenta ligá-la]. Val then crashes to the floor as the police arrive [Val então cai no chão enquanto a polícia chega]. At first, the friends believe she just experienced a seizure, but thereafter, based on the codes that the policemen relay to their colleagues, they deduce that Val committed suicide, most likely by being forced to drink the bleach [ De início, os amigos acreditam que ela apenas teve uma convulsão, mas depois, baseado nos códigos que os policiais narram para os seus colegas, eles deduzem que Val cometeu suicídio, mais provavelmente sendo forçada a beber alvejante].

When Adam tries to call the police, he is warned by a mysterious voice against hanging up [Quando Adam tenta ligar para a polícia, ele é alertado por uma voz misteriosa para desligar]. Billie resurfaces with a camera view from across Ken's room [Billie resurge com a visão duma câmera do outro lado de Ken]. Ken walks over to have a look and freezes in horror [Ken anda até o local pra dar uma olhada e congela em pavor]. His webcam momentarily disconnects, and then reconnects to show him being thrown about by an unseen force and mangling his hand in a blender, before using the blades to slice his own throat, thus killing himself [sua webcam momentaneamente se disconecta, e depois se reconecta para mostrá-lo sendo sacudido por uma força invisível destroçando sua mão num liquidificador antes de usar as lâminas para cortar seu pescoço e portanto se matando]. Billie then displays the video that caused Laura's eventual suicide; dubbed "Leaky Laura", it shows a drunk Laura face-down on the ground near her house, barely conscious, sprawled in her menstrual blood and excrement [Billie então mostra o vídeo que causou o suicídio final de Laura; apelidada de Leaky Laura, mora Laura bêbada de cabeça abaixada no chão próxima a sua casa, pouco consciente, esparramada no seu sangue menstrual e excremento].

Billie forces Adam, Blaire, Mitch, and Jess to play Never Have I Ever, stating that the loser of the game will die [billie força Adam, Blaire, Mitch e Jess a jogar "Never have I Ever", dizendo que o perdedor do jogo morrerá]. All four friends are forced to reveal dark secrets which put them at odds with each other: Jess spread rumors that Blaire had an eating disorder, Blaire got drunk and crashed Jess's mother's car, Mitch kissed Laura soon before her death and reported Adam to the police for selling weed, Jess stole $800 from Adam, and Adam offered to trade Jess' life for his own [todos os quatro amigos são forçados a revelar segredos obscuros que os colocam em conflitos entre si: Jess espalhou rumores de que blaire tinha um distúrbio alimentar, Blaire ficou bêbada e bateu o carro da mãe da Jéssica, Mitch beijou Laura bem antes de sua morte e denunciou Adam à polícia por vender macinha, Jess roubou $800 de Adam, e Adam se ofereceu para trocar a vida de Jess por a de si mesmo]. Soon after it is also revealed that Blaire had sex with Adam behind Mitch's back on two occasions and Adam forced their classmate Ashley Dane to get an abortion after he date raped her using roofies at a party [pouco tempo depois é também revelado que Blaire fez sexo com Adam pelas costas de Mitch em duas ocasiões e Adam forçou a colega de classe deles Ashley Dane a fazer um aborto depois deles ter a estuprado usando o truque do Boa noite Cinderela]

Blaire and Adam suddenly receive secret messages from their printers [Blaire e Adam de repente recebe. Mensagens secretas das suas impressoras]. Worried that they are still lying behind his back, Mitch furiously demands that Blaire reveal her note to him and threatens to leave if she doesn't [Preocupado que eles ainda estão mentindo pelas suas costas, Mitch furiosamente exige que Blaire revele sua nota para ele e ameaça sair se ela não o fizer]. Billie assures Blaire that if Mitch leaves, he will die [Billie assegura a Blaire que se Mitch sair, ele vai morrer]. In a moment of panic and high stress, Blaire shows her message: "If you reveal this note, Adam will die." [Num momento de pânico e alto stress, Blaire mostra a sua mensagem: "Se você revelar esta nota, Adam vai morrer"] Adam suddenly kills himself by shooting himself in the face; as he collapses, his camera reveals his note: "If you reveal this note, Blaire will die. [Adam de repente se mata atirando em si mesmo na face; enquanto entra em colapso, sua camera revela a nota dele: "Se você mostrar sua nota, Blaire vai morrer"]

Billie then asks which of the threesome defaced Laura's grave [Billie então qual dos três estragou a sepultura de Laura]. When Blaire warns Jess against answering said question, Billie turns off all the lights in her house [Quando Blaire alerta Jess em relação a responder a pergunta dita, Billie desliga todas as luzes da casa.]. Jess hides in her bathroom, while Blaire goes on Chatroulette and gets someone to call the police [Jess se esconde em seu banheiro, enquanto Blaire vai no Chatroulette e pede pra alguém ligar pra polícia]. Suddenly, the video feed disconnects after Jess is seen screaming and being thrown around the room by an unseen entity [De repente, o feed do vídeo se desconecta depois que Jess é vista gritando e sendo jogada pelo quarto por uma entidade invisível]. Soon after, Blaire receives a Facebook notification from Jess's account [Pouco tempo depois, Blaire recebe uma notificação do Facebook da conta de Jess]. A video of Jess being fatally choked with her own electric hair-straightener appears, and is then uploaded as an Image macro, with the caption being "looks like she finally stfu" [Um vídeo de Jess sendo totalmente asfixiada com seu próprio alisador de cabelo aparece, e é então carregado como uma imagem macro, com o subtítulo "parece que ela finalmente calou a boca].

Billie privately messages Blaire on Facebook, finally wanting her to confess who uploaded the Leaky Laura video [Billie privadamente manda uma mensagem de texto para Blaire no Facebook, finalemnte querendo que ela confesse quem colocou o video Leaky Laura]. Blaire tries to deny any involvement from her and Mitch, but after Billie continues counting down the seconds she has to admit the truth, she confesses that Mitch did it [Blaire tenta negar qualquer envolvimento dela e Mitch, mas depois Billie continua fazendo contagem regressiva dos segundos que ela tem para admitir a verdade, ela confessa que Mitch o fez.]. Without warning, Mitch grabs his own knife and stabs himself in the head, collapsing and disconnecting his video feed, leaving Blaire all alone [Sem aviso, Mitch pega sua própria faca e o esfaqueia na cabeça, entrando em colapso e desconectando o seu feed de vídeo, deixando Blaire sozinha].

As Blaire breaks down in tears, Billie - finally unveiled as Laura herself - declares her appreciation for Blaire's honesty [Enquanto Blaire se quebranta em lágrimas, Billie - finalmente revelado sendo a prórpia Laura - declara sua apreciação pela honestidade de Blaire]. A desperate Blaire tries to remind Laura of their friendship when she was alive, but Laura responds by uploading another video of herself on Blaire's account [Uma versão desesperada de Blaire tenta lembrar Laura da amizade delas quando ela ainda estava viva, mas Laura responde colocando outro video da própria conta online]. It is the same Leaky Laura video, only this time the video continues to show that Blaire was the one recording it, laughing at Laura's misfortune and treating it as a prank [É o mesmo vídeo Leaky Laura, apenas que dessa vez o vídeo continua e mostra que Blaira foi quem o gravou, rindo do azar de Laura e tratando tudo como uma piada]. With the truth finally revealed, Blaire's account is soon bombarded with hateful comments from those who denounce her for causing Laura's death [Com a verdade finalmente revelada, a conta de Blaire é depois bombardeada por comentários de ódio daqueles que a denunciam por causar a morte de Laura]. Laura tells Blaire that she wishes she could forgive her before signing off.

Blaire is left alone once again; during the silence, her bedroom door suddenly creaks open [Blaire é deixada sozinha novamente; durante o silêncio, a porta do seu quarto de repente se abre]. A pair of hands slams her laptop shut before disappearing into the darkness [Um par de mãos fecha o seu laptop antes de desaparecer na escuridaão]. Blaire calls out to Laura, and without warning, Laura's vengeful spirit lashes out at Blaire, presumably killing her as the screen cuts to black [Blaire chama por Laura, e sem avisar, o espírito vingativo de Laura ataca Laura, presumivelmente a matando enquanto a tela corta pra o preto].
