If you have watched the latest music video by Taylor Swift, The Man, you saw that it portrays a very strong topic: sexist double-standards. You don't need to follow her career very closely to notice that throughout her history in music business she's been labeled as many things, especially because of her relationship choices. What she wants us to consider after watching the video is whether or not she'd go through the same things she went thought if she were a man.

Take a look at the very first verses where she brings up the first expression: 

I would be complex

I would be cool

They'd say I played the field before

I found someone to commit to

And that would be okay

If you play the field, you "indulge in a series of sexual relationships without committing oneself to anyone". So do you think people would pick on Taylor Swift any less for playing the field if she were a man? Leave us your opinion in the comment section down below.

o que significa a expressão walk a tightrope?

I was engaged in some reading this afternoon when I came across an expression in a tribute to Paulo Freire, who by the way was the topic for my classes this week. 

Among many other things, the tribute describes part of his pedagogy which consists of making people assume their responsibilities, make decisions without outside interference and finally "to walk the tightrope between shade and light,..." 

When you walk a tightrope, you do something that requires extreme care and precision in a situation that allows very little or no error. A more practical way of understanding the expression would be to imagine yourself dealing with problems that are far beyond your control or difficult to solve, such as layoff at work, failing business, finantial management, etc. You're so stressed out about the consequences or the outcome of your decisions and behavior you feel like you're walking a tightrope.
