O que significa o verbo TO THRIVE e como utilizá-lo?

Essa palavra tem sido recorrente nos últimos filmes que eu assisti nessa última semana. Por isso, eu achei que seria interessante abordá-la aqui no blog. Ela possui alguns significados e eu vou abordá-los logo abaixo. Lembrando que to thrive é um verbo irregular. Portando: thrive / throve / thriven. Veja só:

TO THRIVE

MEANING 1: to grow vigorously; to flourish (of a child, animal, or plant)
  • Some plants thrive in sandy soil.

MEANING 2: to gain in wealth and possessions; to be successful; make steady progress; to prosper
  • After all, during recessions, discretionary products suffer while discount products and companies thrive, which is why Wal-Mart has been doing well.
  • The town has been thriving on tourism.Blue-Collar Prius


MEANING 3: To be, or to become happy or happier; to rejoice in:
  • Society should recognise that a child may thrive in any number of different family structures.

MEANING 4: to become successful or happy in a particular situation, especially one that other people would not enjoy
  • Some couples thrive on conflict.
  • Fortunately, Pearson seems to thrive on the insecurity of the actor's life.
  •  It has been said that clever people correct their mistakes whilst the stupid thrive on them.
