Expressões idiomáticas com a palavra PRESENCE

You're at your birthday party when you notice someone looking familiar standing right in the corner of the room. You come up to her and see that's your aunt Susie that came all the way down from a distant place just to congratulate you on your birthday. You say: How nice of you to grace me with your presence! That's our first expression with the word presence. When you grace someone with your presence, you honor him or her with your presence. Easy, huh? Let's move on to our next idiom.

Imagine this time you're at a restaurant when you notice someone's choking. You're not a doctor, but you know exactly what you need to do in that kind of emergency. Turns out, thanks to you, that person gets rid of that something stuck in his throat and can't put into words how thankful he is for your help. When you get home, here's what your company says about your act of heroism: He had the presence of mind to help someone at the restaurant when he was choking on some piece of food. When you have the presence of mind to do something, you have the calmness and ability to act sensibly in an emergency or difficult situation.

Imagine you're called to be part of a project from school right in the middle of its process. When you join the group, you see that things are not going really well. So you do your best to make things right. After a while, you make your presence felt. The project becomes a success and everybody is aware that you were the one who saved it. When you make your presence felt like that, you have a strong effect on other people or on a situation. You make the difference. Can you think of any other example for the three expressions with the word presence we've learnt today? Leave them in the comment section. Take care!
