the hard way: o que isso significa?

If you have a very naive or immature friend, you might relate to the expression of today. Suppose your friend is always getting into trouble when it comes to relationships. She always picks the problem guys and ends up suffering a lot for her decisions.

One day, while you're trying to talk some sense into her, she admits she's had a very bad taste for guys and that she has learned the hard way the good guys are the best ones to date. That means she had to go through a lot of bad experiences with bad boys and suffer a lot to understand that she should get involved with only the serious ones, the ones that she can settle down.

When I started studying English, I didn't learn it the easy way. It was the hardest way. Because I kept trying out different methods and most of them didn't turn out to be efficient ones. So I would go back to square one and try out a different one. I'm still halfway through this process. I hope you enjoyed the lesson. Take care!
