When you're a beginner English students, it's obvious that you need someone to take you through the first stepts off the whole process. Some people do it alone as what we usually call the self-taught studentws, but other people really need help to get started. When I started out, I was one of those english self-taught students, and although I wasted a lot of my time doing the wrong thing, going through materials of bad quality and using the wrong methods, I eventually learned my lesson. After trying out so many methods and bad quality English text books that promised the world of English, I learned how to separate the wheat from the chaff. Do you know what that means?

It means that I learned how to tell things of good quality from what is worthless. That usually happens in a natural way with English students. We're usually told by so many people what's the best way to acquire the language, and after a while a lot of experience, we start realizing how we better gain knowledge. You can also choose good teachers from the bad ones. That is, you can use the expression with people as well. So imagine you own a company that's looking for new workers. It's the job applications and the interviews that will separate the wheat from the chaff. Before in the end, only the best ones running for the position at your company will have to chance to get the job.
