put money where your mouth is: o que isso significa?

The expression of today can be understood in two different ways. It all goes by the context of the sentence. For example, when you put money where you mouth is, you support something you believe in by giving money to it, like an institution or charity. So if you know someone who's always talking about donating money to charity but never does, you tell him to put money where his mouth is. That means he should stop talking and give his money right away.

When we say that SOMETHING should put money where its mouth is, we're also saying it should take action and stop just talking and talking. For example, the government should put money where its mouth is and prove free public higher education for all students. We know politicians are all talk, so they should also put money where their mouth is and start working hard. That's it for today. Take care!
