Imagine at your company something very valuable has been stolen. Everybody gets nervous because nobody has an idea of who stole it or how could that happen since everybody seems so honest. And what worries even more is that everybody now is under a cloud o suspicious. That means everybody is suspicious until the truth is found. Very intuitive, isnt it? Now, have you heard of the expression "a cloud on the horizon"? Read on!
In Brazil, when you're attending higher education, at the end of your course you have to create an end of course monograph and very often you also have to present it to an audience. So imagine you're through with all the classes from your college and the only cloud on the horizon is that presentation. Do you understand what I said? A cloud on the horizon is some difficulty you expect to happen in the future. I am in that situation. I have attended all my classes at college and now the only cloud on the horizon is my monograph. I hope I'll get rid of it soon.
Now still talking about that monograph, imagine you know a classmate of yours has never been a good student and now that he has to present his monograph, he's saying he's going to get the best grade of the whole class. While talking to a friend of yours about him, you say: anyone who thinks he's really getting the best grade in the class is living in cloud-cuckoo land. That means they believe in things that are impossible to happen. They live in cloud-cuckoo land, they are very delusional.
Those are the expressions I have for the word cloud. There are many more of those I can still talk about on a future post. But for now, that's all. Talk to you next time!
