O que significa "for the hell/heck of it"? (inspirado na musica Elephant, de Tame Impala)

Eu deixei os três primeiros versos da música Elephant acima, de Tame Impala, pra contextualizar melhor a expressão em foco: for the hell of it. Na música, o elefante é usado como metáfora para representar uma pessoa egocência, que como diz na música, balança sua grande tromba cinza por razão nenhuma.

Quando alguém faz alguma coisa só por diversão, especialmente quando se trata de algo questionável, a expressão for the hell of it pode ser usada. Veja esse exemplo: Another boy has been caught putting sugar in petrol tanks, just for the hell of it. This makes me want to throw a chair through the window, just for the hell of it.
