How much attention do you give to your hair? Do you think it's very important to have perfect hair to look presentable? Some people are so worried about their hair, they never leave a hair out of place. That's right. When you're someone whose appearance is very tidy, you don't have a hair out of place. I've met some people whose hair is combed in such a perfect way it's literally difficult to see a hair out of place. As for me, the messier my hair looks the better. I like it better that way.

So now that we've seen the first expression "not a hair out of place", let's move on to our second expression: a hair's breadth. Alright, this one is very simple, but you may have never heard of the word breadth before. Breadth means "the distance or measurement from side to side of something. the width." So when you say for example a place is within a hair's breadth of another place, it means there's a very very small distance between them. This expression actually refers to every two things that are separated by a small distance, even when the meaning is not literal. For example, you're doing something wrong and are almost caught. In that case, you can say that you were a hair's breadth away from getting caught. It's pretty simple, isn't it? Let's move on to our third expression with the word hair.

A bad hair day. Have you ever heard of this one? That expression alludes to those days when you seem to be incapable of making your hair look good. You wash it, you brush it, you even straighten it, but it seems to be a bad hair day for you. That day can be everything buy good, right? That's why you can use the expression to talk about any day that's going really bad. For example, you get to work looking very tired and stressed out and someone asks you what's going on. You say: nothing. I'm just having a bad hair day. That means you're having a bad day in general. Maybe everything's turned out bad since you left your bed.
