o que significa make up mind?

You go to a restaurant with your friend Tony and when the waiter comer over to wait on you, Tony can't make up his mind whether to have the salmon or the chicken. Again, he can't make up his mind what to have for dinner. When you make up your mind, you make a decision. Tony can't make up his mind because maybe both meals are too delicious and he's not sure which one to have. Notice that after the expression "make up mind" there is usually a question word, like what, which, etc.

Imagine now you have a daughter who's always liked dancing. When anybody asks her what she wants to be when she grows up, she says without a second thought: I want to be a dancer. You think it's good that you daughter has already made up her mind to become a professional dancer in the future. It is something you really appreciate. In that context, when you make up your mind, you decide something, especially what to do. Take a look at these other examples: She's made up her mind to take dancing lessons. Once you've made your mind up, there's no turning back. I hope this is helpful. Talk to you next time!
