I've talked a lot about politics lately. Not that I've discussed politics or advertised any kind of candidate, but I've used many examples around politics to talk about some of the latest expressions. For example, this time we have the expression "the hearts and minds of". In what kind of situation would we use an expression like that?
To answer that question, remember that we've been watching the candidates for president of Brazil on television a lot lately. It's election time. So usually they have around 20 minutes to talk about their promises and ask people for their votes. It's during the last 30 seconds of the interview when they finally can speak directly to the viewer and try to make the most of that time reaching the hearts and minds of the Brazilian people.
When you reach the minds and hearts of someone or a group of people, you touch them emotionally and intellectually to get their support. It's like you're asking for empathy. Politicians have their ways of doing that. They're so diplomatic that people end up giving them support and even more importantly, their votes. That's all for today. Take care!
