When I was a kid I got the habit of changing cellphones every 3 months. It's not that I got my mom to buy me a new one. I would trade my old cellphone for a different one and at times adding a few extra bucks. One day, when I had already changed my old cellphone for a new one, I couldn't help but hate my decision. Although the new phone was considered better in so many different ways, I was starting to think my old one was head and shoulders above it. But wait, head and shoulders above? What does that mean?
When something is head and shoulders above something else, it means it is clearly superior. That's when I thought about my old phone when i got my hands on my new one. Maybe because I wasn't adapted to its new features and was speaking too soon, but the thing is, my first impression was that my old phone was head and shoulders above my new phone. You can use that expression referring to people as well. For example, you have a coworker that works directly with you on new projects and stuff. One day, he's fired and replaced by someone way less experienced than him. While talking to a friend of yours about the situation at the company, you say: He is good at what he does, but my old workmate stands head and shoulders above him. See how easy that is? That's it for today.Talk to you next time!
