get off chest

Imagine you have a huge problem that's been worrying you for a long time and now you're opening up to one of your friends to see if it makes you feel any better. What you're doing is getting your problem off your chest, you're getting it off your chest. That's something to do when you want to unburden yourself, relieve yourself, make yourself feel better after opening up to somebody else. Take a look at all these examples: You will feel better if you get it off your chest. I have to get this off my chest. I'm tired of your rudeness to me! / I sometimes discuss my problems with someone else just to get them off my chest. I hope this is useful. Talk to you next time!
