Expressões com a palavra RISK

Imagine you're in a situation where you need to do something really risky to accomplish something. For example, you want to pass a test, but since you didn't study at all you think you need to cheat in order to get a good grade. The problem is, there's a lot at stake [meaning there's a lot to lose] and you may not be willing to run the risk of getting caught. So you say: I'm not risking my neck for a good grade. Our teacher would kill us if he found out we're cheating. When you risk your neck, you do something really dangerous, but only to accomplish something really difficult. See this example: Look at that traffic! I refuse to risk my neck just to cross the street to buy a paper. I refuse to risk my neck at all.

Our second expression is a little more common: to risk something on someone or something. So imagine you decide to invest your money on something you might call a good deal. But your friend thinks you're risking your money on something that's not worth it. Again, you're risking your money on something he doesn't believe to be a good deal. When you risk something on something or someone, you have a chance of losing it on them. So maybe the deal you made will bring you a huge financial loss. That's it for today. Talk to you next time!
