Como dizer "levar um tombo" em Inglês?

Today I went jogging, and at some point of my way I tripped over a rock and took a nasty spill. The most embarrassing thing about that was that I was surrounded by people walking by me, and all I could do was pretend nothing had happened. But did you see the expression I've used? To take a nasty/bad/quite spill means to have a fall, like the one I had on my way while jogging.

You can also say you had a spill, if you will. Do you have stories of people taking very nasty spills around you? One day, I was at the square with some of my friends and some girls passed by us while one of them fell behind because she took a very nasty spill. She had a lollipop before she fell and it ended up a few meters away from her. When she finally got back up, feeling the shame of his life, she stood up in a little corner surrounded by her friends and I could hear her saying that she would only leave the square when everybody left first. That was a real spill that she took. Talk to you next time!
