come into service: o que isso significa?

I live in a building that has two elevators. A few days ago, one of the elevators, the service one, broke and it wasn't immediately fixed. We spent a few weeks having to do with only one elevator, the social one, that might have worked more than what it usually does.

It was only a few days later that we could count on the second elevator, which came into service when the technical people finally fixed it. When something comes into service, it starts working the way it was designed to function. When I went shopping one day at one of these malls around here, some of the escalators weren't working. So we had to climb the regular stairs as the healthy normal human being should always do. It was only after a few minutes later that the escalators came into service and we could use them.
